A Look Back At How Photography Got Started For Panoramic Photographers

By Richard Howard

photography as been seen as a brilliant art form since cameras were introduced one hundred years. People have, for years, wanted to be able to keep images in a place were it could be preserved and admired for a long time. A predecessor for this was painting. Painting, before cameras was a thing in the modern century, is capturing images based on what the painter want to interpret. But this look a lot of skill and time to accurately get a portrait of a person.

The coming of late 19th century saw the prototypes of various cameras being built and tested out by different inventors with the purpose of getting an image of what is seen. The popularity of this grew enough to breed different styles and lead to it being called an art. Panoramic photographers follow a particular style of taking pictures and there various other kinds as well. It is in a sense like painting but with more details.

Back then photography, to print pictures were printed or developed on glass plates. This was until the 1890s when plastic films were introduced, making amateur photography popular. But the cost of making early films where quite expensive and had lower quality out compared to glass plates which were their equivalent.

The film was introduced eventually but did not catch on do to how expensive these items were. Most like how superior the stability of glass is. These plates were also used for lots of other application in the field of different sciences such as space or astro photography that has had seen continued use up into the early 20th century. There are several other uses as well.

Finally the film became the dominant mode of photography during its inception until the 21st century. Although in modern times, the art is dominated by digital phones and cameras, film is still used by lovers of old school ways and professionals as well. The look that is given by film is quite appealing compared to digital counterparts. The atmosphere and sensitivity that is given gives it an value that people are nostalgic for.

The first colors that photos had were not colors at all but monochrome. More commonly known as black and white to most people, black and white had persisted well into the 70s due to how much a colored camera could cost in those days. Now color is that norm but same with film, many love black and white for how classical and nostalgic it looks.

Colors took a few tries to create. Glass plates could not fully get colors because they could not hold them and the color would eventually fade in the light. Since the pictures takes hours and upon hours to develop, colors would not stick and fade once flight was shown on it. The first time a picture with colors was taken was 1861 according to history and became a game changer in photography forever.

The digital camera was interesting invention that was released to masses in 1980s. The digital method could now replace film was it did not require that but only battery and a cartridges to keep pictures. Since it did not take extra and did not expire, this as seen as far more efficient and superior to film as a whole.

Thanks to all these advancements in its field, many things were achieved. After still photos were made, the invention of video or moving pictures became very popular. Many legends came from Cameras and what they were. One was that if a picture of you was taken, your soul would be taken and trapped into photographs and be sealed there.
