Utilizing RC Helicopters To Get Aerial Photos

By Dick Pendergraft

To take aerial photography, they usually use RC helicopters for some time now. This is because of the influence of the press and media and people knows what are the possible things. Technology today has been much safer, reliable and cheaper plus a few innovations have been available.

How to own an an aerial photography and have it in the air? Three things to consider:

- the airframe you want to use for your helicopter - Features of the camera that you will use - Autopilot control of the helicopter

It is best to decide first your camera and its weight before choosing the remote control helicopter for your aerial photography.. For people whose option is limited due to their budget they can use a light camera and a small remote control helicopter to lift it. If you want to use a DSLR for your aerial photography you better choose a bigger remote control helicopter since its quite heavy. Electric motors that you should use should have less vibrations and noise. Like the popular remote control helicopter, the Align and Maxi Joker series, remote control helicopters should be build in good quality, can endure lifting heavy objects and can be easily modified.

If you already have a helicopter, be sure you can make it fly comfortably. Check where you can mount your camera when the remote control helicopter is in the air- in front or under the slung. To have a better angle or filming and for less vibrations you should mount it in front but you can also use the other site. Placing the batteries below the tail can set-off the weight. It is really worth buying an expensive mount since it can prevent vibrations. You can use a second radio system since it can still achieve control and a second operator is recommended. Even though you are taking aerial photography up in the air, you can still view the shots from the ground using a video link and also other functions are still possible to do like shutter and others.

Because of the improvement of technology, new innovations are great and remote control helicopters flight now stabilized, also the military UAV technology is out in the market. In order for you to shoot properly with a stable platform, I recommend you use the basic system.. Knowing how to operate the remote control helicopter is enough. If you have enough budget, autopilot systems can control your remote helicopter and let your aerial photography so its job. Through the advancement of technology, safety has been automatically installed in the system of the remote helicopter.
