How To Choose A Wedding Photographer!

By Pierre Mardaga

So much needs to work together to make your wedding the day you want it to be. There are many considerations such as culture, tradition, location, diet, and family. One key element is your wedding photographer. Your wedding photographer would capture the lasting record of your day. You'll have your photographer present, generally, from start to end so you want to be sure you would be able to work with them.

You'll be wondering how you would be able to choose the correct person for your wedding photography. Below are few tips from a Sydney photographer on how to choose the right wedding photographer.

Firstly you do not want to underestimate the impact your photographer can make. The wedding photographer is normally present with the bride, her bridesmaids and family before the wedding. You want the correct individual who would put everybody at ease. Who can capture the excitement without exacerbating any anxiety. The same person will be there through your ceremony and you want to know they will not be a distraction to your guests in their quest for a 'hero' shoot wedding photo. Your photographer would also be capturing special moments through the reception so you want to know that you can trust them to work with and be sympathetic to guests while understanding and taking the photos you want.

Secondly you have to ensure you have the peace of mind gained through their level of wedding photography experience and the viewing of their portfolio. Wedding photos are a specialty which not every photographer can produce or even feel passionate about. You have to know that your photographer is an experienced professional you could trust your wedding photography too. Few questions to ask are how long they have been photographing weddings. How many weddings have they shot so far? Do they only do weddings or do they do other parties and activities?

Once you're reassured that they have the experience and qualifications to shoot your wedding you have to know about their style. View their portfolio and see if it is the style you want for your wedding. Remember you would be living with your wedding photos for a very long time. You have to be proud to display them and show them off, not leave them sitting dusty in an album on a shelf.

The next thing to check when selecting your wedding photographer is recommendations. Several will be able to show you photos from a particular wedding and provide contact details for that couple. Not everybody wants to check references or cold call a photographer's clientele so bridal forums are one more place to check. Most brides would happily share experiences both good and bad on forums.

See what people have to say about your prospective wedding photography choices. Look on-line, ask your friends, ask your family. See if any of them have had experiences with this wedding photographer and what they have to say about them.

It may not seem like an important factor, but it's a good idea to consider their appearance. If they're wearing an old grungy shirt and ripped jeans they might not show the proper care you expect or present well enough for your wedding. Do they respond quickly and sensitively to your needs?

A lot of the wedding photographers in Sydney would actually dress to the attire you want; casual, white tie, black tie, lounge, cocktail, so do not be afraid to ask.

Lastly, it is vital that you select an individual that's an AIPP wedding photographer. The AIPP is The Australian Institute Of Professional Photography.

AIPP membership means that this individual comes from an association with accredited members. You're afforded the confidence that an AIPP member knows what they're doing, can be entrusted with, and will do the job the best.
